Can time spent in online courses outside of Australia count towards satisfying the ‘Study in designated regional area qualification’?
At the time of invitation to apply for the visa, you must hold at least one degree, certificate, or trade qualification from an Australian educational institution that meets the Australian study criteria and was gained while living and studying in an eligible regional Australia area.
So some students may ask: “I’m taking classes online outside of the country due to the Covid-19 border restrictions, but my school is actually in a regional area, so can I add the 5 points for remote study still?
Unfortunately,No, you cannot. There is a clear requirement in the immigration law for this scoring – it cannot be constituted distance education, which means that online classes taken outside of the country are not accepted for this extra 5 points.
You should be careful when calculating your own points and submitting your EOI.
